About the role

Valor Healthcare is looking for a passionate Medical Assistant Phlebotomist to join their team at the Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) in Kosciusko, MS.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain two unique patient identifiers when registering, providing care, treating, or providing services to any patient.
  • Courteously answers the telephone in a timely manner and relays messages and/or takes action to assist the customer at the initial point of contact.
  • Take messages properly by including the name of caller, time of call, date of call, a full message and return call phone number.
  • Ensure that each patient receives prompt and courteous attention at each clinic visit.
  • Provide prompt, courteous and high-quality service to internal and external customers.
  • Ensure that patient information, eligibility verification, insurance data, means test co-payments are completed and updated on each visit; assist patients with completion of paperwork.
  • Explain to patients, families, and significant others; policies, guidelines, and regulations pertaining to eligibility.
  • Schedule appointments in VISTA following VHA Directive 2010-027 or subsequent revisions, VHA Outpatient Scheduling Processes and Procedures.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality by adhering to policies and procedures that protect sensitive patient data.
  • Perform phlebotomy, prepare and label blood and urine specimens, complete required paperwork for laboratory processing, and package specimen for transport.
  • Perform and process proficiency testing.
  • Perform quality control as recommended by manufacture and ancillary testing coordinator for point of care testing performed.
  • Maintain, prepare and ensure proper completion of all laboratory test information/data for input into computer system and completion of medical records.
  • Instruct patients in preparation for procedures such as laboratory, x-ray, EKG, within the approved standard of care.
  • Measure vital signs and perform EKG’s and other procedures as appropriate when ordered by a provider/or from delegation by an RN within the approved standard of care.
  • Prepare treatment rooms and patients for examination of patients as appropriate for CBOC.
  • Document accurately in medical record, timely, and completely in a manner that meets appropriate standards of care.
  • Perform receptionist duties as needed.
  • Perform clerical duties as assigned.
  • Prioritize patient care in an area where workload fluctuates due to unexpected emergencies.
  • Interact with patients in a manner that is appropriate to the patient's age, physical and emotional condition.

Qualifications

  • Certification as a Phlebotomist or Medical Assistant.
  • Minimum of one year relevant medical practice experience.
  • Must hold a current and valid BLS certification by the American Heart Association.
