Responsibilities
- Assist healthcare providers with routine patient examinations and procedures.
- Prepare examination rooms by cleaning and restocking supplies.
- Record patient information such as vital signs and medical histories.
- Schedule patient appointments and manage the patient flow.
- Absorb and manage workload bucket(s), refilling prescriptions, maintaining medication sample(s) log, and cross-covering within other departments.
- Provide patients with basic instructions for medication and follow-up care based on provider instructions.
- Perform phlebotomy and other CLIA Waived testing, observe urine collection as well as preparing batch(s) for laboratory.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to privacy regulations.
- Ensure compliance with clinic safety protocols and procedures.
- Assist patients as needed to maintain safety (i.e. Mobility).
- Avoid inventory management by tracking and ordering supplies.
- Facilitate communication between patients and healthcare providers.
- Obtain prior authorizations.
- Participate in staff meetings and contribute to a positive clinic environment.
- Demonstrate a willingness to learn and develop new skills in clinical care.
- Chart preparation, including immunizations, discharge summary, continuation of care referrals, lab results, VA authorizations, and notes on referrals.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Completion of a medical assistant training program preferred.
- Certification not required; continue education and learning to sit for certification within the first year.
- Association* accredited course in Basic Life Support (BLS) (for clinical staff), or Heart Saver CPR AED (for nonclinical staff), and renewal on a regular basis, with up to a three-month grace period after the expiration date.
