About the role

The Medical Assistant (MA) plays a crucial role in the healthcare team, supporting providers, LPNs, and RNs in delivering comprehensive patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Accepts assignments for patient care within the scope of preparation and current standards of practice.
  • Collaborates with the provider, LPN, or RN to gather data for assessment, planning, and evaluation of care.
  • Accurately obtains vital signs, prompts for health status, administers relevant care, documents in the electronic health record, performs routine tests, and reinforces patient instruction.
  • Participates in team-based care and patient education initiatives, follows CPGs and workflows, pends orders, and manages organizational resources.
  • Performs administrative and clerical tasks, such as scheduling, prior authorizations, and responding to patient inquiries.
  • Works independently and collaboratively, acts with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality, and remains calm in emergency situations.
  • Utilizes organizational resources efficiently, including time, supplies, and equipment, and performs other duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
  • Lifts, positions, pushes, reaches, stoops, bends, kneels, crawls, and transfers patients as needed.
  • Computer, keyboard, and typing proficiency required.
  • BLS/CPR certification required within one week of hire.
  • AHA & ARC accepted.
  • Experience in a healthcare setting and electronic health records preferred.

Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
