About the role

The Medical Assistant is accountable for assisting the providers in front and back office procedures. The incumbent has the added responsibility of providing a direct liaison between provider and patient, making certain that any patient questions or concerns have been addressed by the appropriate provider. This position may float to various sites within the health system.

Responsibilities

  • Escorting the patient from the waiting room to the examination room promptly
  • Taking vital signs as per guidelines
  • Maintaining examination rooms' stock
  • Documenting all patient communications
  • Preparing lab specimens for processing
  • Completing the necessary referral forms and obtaining authorizations for referrals and keeping records of same
  • Scheduling patients for tests
  • Placing and receiving phone calls in order of importance and filing into patient charts to become part of the permanent record
  • Administering treatments and medications per provider order in accordance with established policies

Requirements

  • Current State of Nevada license for Office Laboratory Assistant or Certified Laboratory Assistant or an application must be submitted within 90 days of employment (excludes departments: 200279, 200280, 200282, 200305, 200317, 200386, 200399, 200410, 200415, 515316, 515317, 530279, 530285, 530288, 530308, 530317, 530367, 530396, 530399)
  • AHA BLS certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment
  • One of the following certifications preferred: Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), National Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT), State of Nevada EMT certification
  • Computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.

Qualifications

  • Working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English
  • Multi-physician office practice experience highly preferred
  • CMA, RMA, CCMA, NCMA, NRCMA, EMT 1 or completion of an Externship (with leadership approval) preferred

Skills

  • Knowledge of technical work with orthopedic bracing and casting related activities

Benefits

For Department 530244, 515284, and 515322 Only, the position requires a fundamental knowledge of technical work with orthopedic bracing and casting related activities. The incumbent must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, motor/sensor, psychosocial and safety appropriate to the age of the patient served and meet the standards of quality as measured by the unit/department age specific competency standard.
