Medical Assistant - Peds

About the role

This position assists in preparing patients for physician examinations and performs various clinical duties under the supervision of a physician.

Responsibilities

• Greets patients in the waiting room and escorts them to exam rooms
• Prepares patients for examination; takes vital signs
• Documents chief complaints, medical histories, and updates in the electronic medical record
• Prepares patients for minor surgeries, ultrasounds, and procedures
• Ensures all pertinent pre-clinic data is in the patient’s chart
• Reviews and updates immunization records
• Performs phlebotomy, urinalysis, and other in-office laboratory tests
• Performs diagnostic testing such as EKG, diabetic retinopathy, and PFT
• Administers immunizations, allergy shots, and other injections
• Assists with phone triage and scheduling appointments
• Maintains a clean and sanitized work environment
• Performs clerical duties as needed
• Communicates with community organizations and health plans
• Participates in continuous quality improvement activities
• Advocates for patients and families

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Completion of a recognized medical assistant program
• On-the-job experience or certification as a medical assistant
• Knowledge of medications, disease processes, and diets
• Computer skills
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
• Ability to work flexible hours and multitask
