Medical Assistant - Palliative Care

About the role

The Medical Assistant (MA) role is assigned duties and responsibilities related to patient care and administrative support in a team-based environment while promoting a smooth flow of patients through the office. The Medical Assistant MA role functions under the license of the physician/advanced practice practitioner when performing clinical and other patient care responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Assist with patient registration and check-in procedures
• Administer medications and perform injections under supervision
• Collect and record patient medical history and vital signs
• Prepare examination rooms and equipment for patient visits
• Take patient histories and assist with diagnostic tests
• Communicate with patients regarding their medical conditions and treatment plans
• Manage patient records and maintain confidentiality
• Perform administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments and managing billing

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED preferred
• Current AAMA, NHA, AMT, or NCCT certification required
• Current BLS certification required or must obtain within 30 days of start date
• Adult Education Medical Assistant program completion and 6 months of clinical experience in a practice setting, or 1 year of clinical experience in a multi-provider practice setting (evaluated on a case-by-case basis)
• Current NH Med Tech License, or NH EMT and National Registry EMT license required for positions in New Hampshire
• Six months of experience as a Medical Assistant or one year as a MaineHealth Clinical Team Assistant
