Medical Assistant - Ortho & Sports Medicine - FT - Day

Full time, first shift (days, less than 12 hours per shift), 40 hours per week. Non-exempt position.

About the role

Cotton O'Neil Orthopedics and Sports Medicine treats patients with both acute and chronic orthopedic conditions. The Orthopedic Medical Assistant works in the clinic for new consults, follow-up appointments, nurse visits, and injection procedures. This role involves patient rooming and discharge, setting up injection procedures, applying and removing casts, removing sutures and staples, and assisting with procedures. Medical Assistants also handle phone calls, relay messages to providers and nurses, and assist with callbacks to deliver prompt, prioritized care. Responsibilities include maintaining supply levels and cleanliness of equipment and exam rooms.

Responsibilities

• Assist in providing assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs).
• Implement identified care plans through coordination with the interdisciplinary care team to promote health and wellness.
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team to achieve expected outcomes.
• Communicate pertinent patient data and information in a timely manner.
• Promote infection prevention through standard precautions, proper wound care, hand hygiene, and cleanliness of patient rooms/department.
• Assist with ADLs, measure and record weight, height, vital signs, and report changes to the assigned nurse.
• Collect laboratory specimens through Point of Care testing, urine collection, or serum lab draws, and complete procedures such as EKG, bladder scan, telemetry monitor application, and removal of peripheral IVs.
• Deliver professional nursing care guided by Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring, fostering caring relationships and respect.
• Promote a mutually respectful environment that encourages idea exchange and supports professional relationships.

• Comply with all Stormont Vail Health policies, standards, mandatory training, and requirements.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Successfully completed first semester in an accredited nursing program or
• Successfully completed a medical assistant or patient care technician program or
• A Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, Registered Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, or Patient Care Technician certification may substitute for the educational requirement.
• Patient Care Technician certification (PCTC - AMCA) or an active certification to practice in Kansas as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, Registered Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, or Emergency Medical Technician.
• First Responder (RQI) certification required within 90 days of hire.
