Medical Assistant or LPN - Urgent Care

About This Location

Aurora Urgent Care in Brookfield, WI, offers in-person care for a variety of minor illnesses and injuries that need immediate attention but aren't an emergency. Our walk-in clinic is open extended hours, making it a convenient option to get care after hours or if you can't get in to see your primary care provider.

What You'll Do

As a Medical Assistant or Licensed Practical Nurse, you'll play a vital role in the care team – supporting providers, connecting with patients, and helping ensure a seamless, compassionate experience every day. As a key member of the ambulatory care team, you will:

• Welcome patients and support their transition into care.
• Take and record vital signs, medical histories, and health screenings.
• Prepare patients for exams and assist providers during procedures.
• Administer medications and vaccines as directed.
• Perform lab-related tasks including specimen collection and point-of-care testing.
• Document care accurately in the electronic health record.
• Partner with physicians, nurses, and teammates to deliver high-quality, coordinated care.

Schedule

• Clinic open Monday–Friday: 8:00 am – 7:00 pm; Saturday/Sunday: 8:00 am – 4:00 pm.
• Work every 4th weekend and 2 holidays per year.
• Schedule includes two 12-hour shifts (7:45 am – 8:00 pm) and one 8-hour shift per week, depending on clinic needs.

Licensure or Certifications

• LPN: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license issued by the state in which the team member practices.
• MA: Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) – to be obtained within 45 days unless department leader determines it is not required.
• Both roles: Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) – to be obtained within 45 days unless department leader determines it is not required.

Degrees

• GED or HS Equivalency Diploma.
• LPN: Advanced training beyond High School that includes completion of an accredited or approved program in Practical Nursing.
• MA: Completion of an accredited or approved program in Medical Assistant, OR 2 years of verifiable full-time experience as a Medical Assistant within the last 5 years.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently throughout the workday.
• Must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies.
• Must be able to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
• Must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with ability to use fine hand manipulation skills for IV insertion and other procedures/functions.
• Must be able to maneuver foot pedals on carts or machines.
• Must be able to perform physical safety interventions such as patient restraint and verbal de-escalation, if needed.
• May be exposed to chemical and hazardous waste as well as blood and body fluids and communicable disease. Protective clothing and equipment must be worn as necessary.
• Must be able to respond quickly to changes in patient and/or unit conditions.
• Physical Abilities Testing may be required.
• Additional department-specific physical requirements may be identified for unique responsibilities within the department by the nurse leader.
