Responsibilities
- Interviews patients, obtains vital signs, and records information on patients' charts.
- May be required to draw and collect blood samples and prepare specimens or swabs for laboratory analysis.
- Captures and documents patient visit notes, including chief complaints, past medical and surgical histories, family histories, vital signs, immunizations, allergies, medications, nutrition, and health and wellness issues.
- Administers and documents waived testing under the direct supervision of the physician.
- Prepares, stocks, and cleans exam rooms and maintains supplies and equipment for patient care.
- Prepares and administers medications according to physician/physician assistant orders and organizational policies and procedures.
- Aids in minor surgical procedures and follows appropriate procedures for specimen handling and processing.
- Provides basic clinical care measures to all age groups per clinical skills checklist.
- Coordinates patient flow to ensure physician efficiency, including managing the patient schedule and wait times.
- Instructs patients and/or families regarding diagnostic procedures, medications, nutrition, and health/wellness issues using pre-approved forms and information.
- Retrieves and sends requested patient health information to authorized individuals in a timely fashion in accordance with HIPAA regulations and organizational policies and procedures.
- Notifies patients of test results, changes in medications, and other alterations in treatment plans as instructed by practitioners within 48 hours of test results.
- Communicates medication prescriptions to appropriate pharmacies as ordered by the physician/practitioner per organizational policies.
- Coordinates diagnostic testing as ordered by the physician/practitioner, effectively communicating with other healthcare providers regarding patient care per organizational policies and procedures.
- Responds to questions and concerns from patients and/or families in an appropriate manner.
Qualifications
- Completion of a medical assistant program or 1 year experience in a clinical capacity.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Computer literate; skilled in use of Microsoft Outlook, electronic health records, and other software programs.
- BLS Required.
