Medical Assistant - North & Harlem Multispecialty-29161

Location: Oak Park, Illinois – Rush Oak Park Hospital, N&H Multispecialty department. Full-time position (0.9–1.0 FTE) on Shift 1, 12-hour schedule (6:30 AM – 7:30 PM).

About the Role

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) assists Physicians, Mid-Level Practitioners, and Registered Nurses with patient evaluation, management, and treatment in an ambulatory care setting. Responsibilities include maintaining patient flow, exam and treatment room upkeep, and performing basic clinical skills such as vital signs and point-of-care testing. The CMA also administers intramuscular injections, immunizations, nebulizer treatments, and over-the-counter medications under physician direction.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and maintain organized patient flow.
• Perform patient intake, including vital signs, height/weight, reason for visit, interim history, allergies, medication lists, and other required interventions.
• Prepare patients for exams based on visit reason and assist providers with procedures.
• Review appointment schedules and ensure patient charts and ancillary reports are available for visits.
• Perform basic lab/testing procedures, phlebotomy, and EKGs.
• Administer immunizations, intramuscular/subcutaneous medications, and nebulizer treatments after competency verification.
• Perform tuberculin skin testing as ordered by a physician.
• Document medication administration and patient care in Epic per policy/protocol.
• Clean, prepare, and stock exam rooms, treatment rooms, and workstations.
• Communicate test results and medical instructions to patients under physician direction.
• Call in medication refills per physician direction or protocol.
• Assist with scheduling patient tests, procedures, and follow-up appointments.
• Maintain, clean, and sterilize equipment and instruments.
• Manage inventory of medical and linen supplies.
• Ensure quality control for equipment and compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC) standards.
• Provide cross-coverage to other clinical areas as assigned.
• Participate in quality improvement projects.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (AAMA, AMT, NCCT, NAHP, AAH, or NHA) required upon hire (includes principles/techniques of injections and medication administration).
• Graduates of a Rush Medical Assistant Apprenticeship program must obtain certification within six months of hire.
• Current CPR certification required upon start date.
• Computer skills, excellent communication, interpersonal, customer service, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• One year of clinical experience.
• Phlebotomy experience.
• Epic Ambulatory experience.

Pay

Pay range: $22.72 – $31.80 per hour. Rush salaries consider education, experience, skills, internal equity, and market data. A $3,000 sign-on bonus is available.
