About the Role

In a caring and professional manner, the Medical Assistant (MA) performs a reasonable scope of clinical and administrative tasks delegated by and under the direct/onsite supervision of the Physician and/or their intermediary personnel responsible for patient care management. Intermediary personnel include physician assistants (PA), nurse practitioners (NP), and registered nurses (RN). He/she assists front office personnel as directed by the Practice/Office Manager.

Schedule

  • Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM

Location: Singing River Surgical Services - Ocean Springs

Responsibilities

  • Perform clinical and administrative tasks under direct/onsite supervision of a Physician, PA, NP, or RN.
  • Assist front office personnel as directed by the Practice/Office Manager.

Note: This is not an exhaustive list; management reserves the right to revise duties as needed.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • Graduate from a Medical Assistant program accredited by ABHES or CAAHEP preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year customer service experience performing registration, scheduling, and insurance verification.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience as a Certified Medical Assistant preferred.

Certifications

  • If CMA: Certification from AAMA, NAHP, AMT, MedCA, NHA, NCCT, or NIHP.
  • If RMA: Certification from AMT, AAH, or NAHP.
  • Maintain certification per certifying organization’s standards.
  • BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer.
  • De-escalation training completed by the end of orientation (90 days).

Skills

  • Superior customer service and professional etiquette.
  • Proficient in computer use, including MS Outlook and Word.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to apply appropriate clinical judgment for patients of all ages.
  • Emotional stability to handle high-stress situations.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in complex situations.
  • Collaborative and respectful working relationships.

Physical Demands

  • Moderately active work: frequent movement within the office and facility, occasional travel within the SRHS service area.
  • Frequent exertion of negligible force to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects, including the human body.
  • Exposure to body fluids, sputum, and tissues with potential infectious disease hazards.
  • Repetitive motions: wrists, hands, and fingers while using office equipment.
  • Ability to perceive sound at normal speaking levels and make fine discriminations in sound.
  • Close visual acuity to shift focus between computer monitors and printed materials.
  • Ability to remain active for extended periods without undue fatigue.
  • Flexibility to work assigned schedules, including potential changes for off days, shifts, or weekends.

Mental Demands

  • Keen mental faculties, assessment, and decision-making abilities.
  • Superior communication and enunciation skills for in-person and telephone interactions.
  • Emotional stability to manage high stress levels.
  • Attention to detail and ability to multi-task in complex situations.
