Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for exams and treatments by recording vital signs, symptoms, measurements, and chief complaints; document pain scores as appropriate.
- Report changes in patient condition to clinicians.
- Assist providers with exams, minor in-office procedures (e.g., blood pressure, respiration, heart rate, temperature), phlebotomies, ear irrigation, and EKGs.
- Act as a chaperone as needed.
- Use universal blood and body fluid precautions and personal protective equipment.
- Prioritize and manage patient flow through the clinical process.
- Coordinate patient care, including pre-certifications, referrals, authorizations, prescriptions, and scheduling for clinic, hospital, and ancillary treatments.
- Communicate test results to patients.
- Act as a resource to clinicians to optimize patient care.
- Administer medications per established policies and procedures or as directed.
- Provide clerical support, including patient notifications and documentation (e.g., medical records, labs, authorizations, X-rays, hospital records).
- Ensure complete and accurate billing information for patient encounters in a timely manner.
- Maintain a clean, functional environment, including disinfection of equipment, exam rooms, and storage areas.
- Follow manufacturer recommendations and OSHA guidelines for handling hazardous substances.
- Perform basic equipment maintenance and coordinate repairs.
- Order and stock supplies, manage medication ordering, and handle expired medications/equipment and recalls.
- Develop and maintain effective communication with external and internal customers, exemplifying service orientation and teamwork.
- Complete onboarding/orientation activities, including simulation training as required.
Requirements
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
- Completion of an approved medical assistant training program as defined by state regulations.
- Active Medical Assistant Certification (e.g., RMA, CMA, CCMA, NCMA) with proof of current membership from a recognized certifying body (e.g., AMT, AAMA, NHA, NCCT).
- BLS certification required.
- Strong computer skills, including experience with medical software.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple changing priorities effectively and organized.
Employees working in behavioral health clinical settings serving children must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at hire and maintain it for the duration of employment. An Arizona Criminal History Affidavit must be signed upon hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with office medical procedures, treatments, and knowledge of insurance, managed care operations, EMR, and scheduling software.
- Additional related education and/or experience.
