About the role

As a Medical Assistant at Intermountain Health, you will play a vital role in supporting our clinical team and ensuring patients receive the best care by providing patient care, communicating clearly through telephone and in-person interactions, and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care under the direction of the clinician by assisting the provider to gather information relevant to the patient’s visit and condition.
• Communicate clearly with patients seeking care through different modalities including telephone and in-person interactions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver patient care, ensuring attention to detail and follow-through.
• Protect privacy, confidentiality, and Protected Health Information (PHI) of patients, members, and caregivers.

Requirements

• Current Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers (must be obtained prior to start date).
• One of the following:
  • Proof of completion of a Medical Assistant Program, or
  • At least one year of Medical Assistant work experience, or
  • Current active and in good standing RN/LPN license to practice nursing in the state of Utah.
• Demonstrated basic computer skills involving word processing and data entry.
• Professional manner and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with patients and fellow caregivers to deliver the highest level of customer/patient satisfaction.
• Ongoing need to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, and identify equipment and supplies.
• Frequent interactions requiring clear verbal communication, hearing, and understanding of spoken information, particularly during emergencies.
• Manual dexterity to manipulate complex and delicate equipment, including frequent computer use and typing for documentation and medication preparation.
• Ability to lift, bend, retrieve, and carry supplies and equipment, including heavy items.
• Capability to walk, assist with patient transport, and navigate crowded or busy rooms with equipment and power cords.
• May be required to stand for extended periods.
• For roles requiring driving: ability to drive a vehicle, including sitting, seeing, and reading signs and traffic signals.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in an outpatient clinic or other healthcare setting.
• Computer literacy in using electronic medical records (EMR) systems and other relevant software.
• Current national MA certification from one of the following:
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) of AMT,
  • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA),
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), or
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) of the AAMA.
• Utah Only: If certified with less than one year of MA experience, caregivers may attend a yearlong MA residency program.

Schedule

36 hours per week (4 days a week). Shift: 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Specific schedule discussed during interview.

Pay

$20.07 - $28.59 per hour, dependent upon experience.
