Founded in 1921, Straub Benioff Medical Center includes a 159-bed hospital in Honolulu, a network of neighborhood clinics, and a visiting specialist program that reaches throughout the state of Hawai'i. With over 200 physicians who are leaders in their fields, Straub provides diagnoses and treatments for more than 32 medical specialties, including bone and joint, heart, cancer, endocrinology/diabetes, family medicine, gastroenterology, geriatric medicine, internal medicine, vascular, and urology.

Straub is home to the Pacific Region’s only multidisciplinary burn treatment center and consistently brings new technologies and innovative medical practices to Hawai'i, such as minimally invasive cardiac surgery and total joint replacement. The hospital’s highly trained neurologists perform neurological evaluations and diagnoses for patients of all age groups, including electrodiagnostic testing, topographical brain mapping, and specialized testing for balance, equilibrium, dizziness, and neuromuscular disorders like Parkinson's disease or multiple sclerosis. Straub was one of the first hospitals in Hawai‘i to treat stroke with TPA, a blood clot-dissolving drug. The Sleep Disorders Center is an accredited, full-service facility offering comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services for sleep-related disorders such as insomnia, excessive daytime sleepiness, obstructive sleep apnea, heavy snoring, narcolepsy, nightmares, and sleepwalking/sleeptalking.

About the Role

As a Medical Assistant in our Neurology department, you will join a dedicated team of physicians and medical staff providing compassionate health services to patients and their families. In this role, you will perform a wide variety of patient care activities. We are looking for someone detail-oriented and attentive, with strong communication and patient care skills, and a commitment to delivering the highest quality health care to Hawai‘i’s people.

Responsibilities

• Perform a wide variety of patient care activities in the Neurology department.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of a Medical Assistant Program and/or equivalent experience.
• Certification as one of the following:
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA),
  • Assessment Based Recognition in Order Entry (ABR-OE) from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA),
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) from the American Medical Technologist (AMT),
  • Nationally Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT),
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) from the American Registry of Medical Assistants,
  • Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) from the National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP),
  • Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC) from the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA), or
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) from the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
• Current American Heart Association Health Care Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR Card.
• Ability to complete departmental competency assessment by the conclusion of the orientation period.

Preferred Qualifications

• Six (6) months of medical assistant experience.
• Knowledge of Classification Procedural Terminology (CPT) and/or International Classification of Disease (ICD-10) coding.
• Experience with electronic medical records.

Pay

Pay range: $28.62 - $30.13 USD per hour. Rate of pay for selected candidates will be determined by various factors including knowledge, skills, abilities, relevant experience and training, as well as internal peer equity.

Schedule

• Day shift - 8 hours.
• Full-time regular position (FTE: 1.000000).
• Bargaining unit: ILWU.
