Providing clinical and office assistance in the clinics of health care providers at our San Antonio, Texas location.
Responsibilities
- Welcomes patients by greeting them in person or on the telephone; answering or referring inquiries.
- Prepares patients for the health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the examining room.
- Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; reviewing and/or recording medical history; taking vital signs; confirming purpose of visit or treatment.
- Supports patient care delivery by helping health care providers during examinations; authorizing drug refills as directed; telephoning prescriptions to pharmacies.
- Educates patients by providing medication and diet information and instructions; answering questions.
- Completes records by recording patient examination, treatment, and test results.
- Generates revenues by recording billing information of services rendered; completing insurance forms; responding to insurance and other third-party inquiries.
- Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
- Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
- Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
- Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping patient care information confidential (HIPAA).
- Serves and protects the physician or health care provider practice by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
- Enhances health care practice reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
- Schedules appointments.
- Answers phones for busy clinic.
- Relays messages and critical lab values to the physician.
- Receives and documents orders such as labs, imaging, and prescriptions.
- Prepares pre-clinic charts.
- Requests and electronically files medical records from hospitals and referring clinics.
- Faxes completed notes to referral sources.
- Works and distributes incoming faxes daily.
- Vitalizes and triages (includes documenting medications, past medical, surgical, family, and social history, entering current medications and drug allergies).
- Follows meaningful use guidelines.
- Maintains patient's privacy and follows HIPAA guidelines.
- Must be able to travel to San Antonio clinic locations as needed.
Requirements
- Medical Assistant Certification
- 2 years Medical Assistant experience
- E Clinical Experience
- Valid Texas Driver's License in good standing/vehicle insurance coverage
- Bi-Lingual (English/Spanish)
Schedule
- Working hours vary from clinic to clinic - typical hours are 8:00 am-5:00 pm or 8:30 am-5:30 pm.
- 1-2 times a week some clinics may require arrival as early as 7 am and others could end as late as 7 pm; flexibility is required.
