About the Role
NextCare Urgent Care is seeking an energetic and enthusiastic Medical Assistant, including those interested in obtaining their Non-Certified Technician (NCT) certification. Responsibilities
- Perform patient care duties within the Medical Assistant scope of practice in an urgent care setting.
- Perform radiology duties as outlined in NextCare Policies and Procedures and state Radiation Rules and Regulations.
- Assist providers with exams (including patient vitals), procedures, and other direct patient care tasks under provider supervision.
- Administer medications per policy and provider direction, adhering to all safety protocols.
- Conduct urine collection for testing, including employer drug screens.
- Perform splinting, casting, and various physicals (e.g., sports physicals).
- Provide urgent care-specific duties such as wound care and oxygen administration.
- Promptly report unusual patient occurrences, including medication events, via incident reports.
- Notify the Clinic Manager of any patient or employee safety concerns.
- Follow laboratory and clinical accreditation policies and guidelines.
- Demonstrate proficiency in EMR/EHR systems.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or described by company policy.
Requirements
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of one of the following:
- An APPROVED (accredited) Medical Assistant training program.
- An UNAPPROVED (non-accredited) Medical Assistant training program AND a National Certification from one of the following:
- American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) – Certified Medical Assistant (CMA).
- American Medical Technologists (AMT) – Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).
- National Healthcareer Association (NHA) – Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA).
- An UNAPPROVED Medical Assistant training program AND one (1) year of employment as a medical assistant post-completion.
- VERIFIABLE work experience directly supervised by a Provider or Physician Group for a minimum of 2000 hours or 1 year.
- Active and current NCT license issued by the Texas Medical Board (for NCT role).
- Current healthcare professional-level CPR certification (American Heart Association, American Red Cross, American Safety Health Institute, or National Safety Council).
