About the role

Brunswick Medical Center in Pembroke is a multi-specialty facility covering 30,000 square feet. It includes family medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, cardiology, endocrinology, general surgery, gastroenterology, orthopedics, and pulmonary services.

Responsibilities

  • Takes vital signs, documents patient information, schedules appointments, and manages patient flow.
  • Interviews patients to obtain medical information, measures vital signs, weight, and height, and records information in the patient's medical record.
  • Explains treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients, orders and organizes educational materials, and acts as a liaison with other departments.
  • Collects blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, logs them, and prepares them for testing; performs phlebotomy if competent.
  • Maintains inventory of immunizations and checks expiration dates.
  • Administers immunizations (as applicable) which requires certification or 3 years of experience administering a vaccine and supervision of a provider.
  • Improves appropriate departmental quality initiatives, such as two patient identifiers and hand hygiene.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required or Associate's Degree in Medical Assisting preferred.
  • Direct MA experience or medical field work 1-2 years required.
  • Basic Life Support [BLS Certification] - Various Issuers preferred.
  • Certified Medical Assistant [National Certification] - Various Issuers preferred.
