About the role
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Medical Assistant (MA) to join our street medicine/mobile health clinic team. Our mobile clinic brings critical care directly to unhoused individuals and others in need, providing essential healthcare services to underserved populations.
Responsibilities
- Patient Care Pre-visit chart scrub (EMR): Including, but not limited to referrals, reviewing medications, Immunizations, allergies, future and standing lab orders, health maintenance due, and preventive care needs.
- Visit prep: procedures/vaccine prep/foot exam.
- Medication, Immunization, and allergy reconciliation.
- Rooming the patient may happen in person or remote: Including, but not limited to vitals/medical records/reconciling care everywhere with health history (remote rooming is applicable to MA II and MA III only).
- Prepare, administer, and document medications and vaccines.
- Assist with clinical procedures.
- Review provider recommendations and after visit summary (AVS) with patient.
- Address to patient encounters via electronic health records.
- Conduct clinical services: Including, but not limited to EKG, pulse oximetry, hearing & vision testing, collect and/or process lab specimens, spirometer, venipuncture.
- Schedule patient appointments, coordination of care with appropriate staff (e.g. CHW, PharmD, RNCC, Nutrition) for appointments or tests with specialists.
- Deliver patient care within HRSA services scope and approved locations, encompassing patient homes, community-based sites, and providing home-based care when necessary and in adherence to defined services and safety protocols.
- Clinic Operations Care of the clinic, maintain cleanliness.
- Supply ordering.
- Sterile Instrument Processing.
- Quality Assurance routine tasks (including but not limited to running controls, checking exp. dates, etc.).
- Mobile Van Only Front desk: build charts, handle registration tasks (check-in, paperwork, insurance), and facilitate handoff to enrollment team.
- Harm Reduction: provide education, manage supply ordering, tracking, and distribution, and maintain communication with DC HR team.
- Medical: Perform HIV/Hep C testing, handle lab/specimen drop-off (car needed), stock and maintain supplies across various clinic sites.
- Cookbook: Coordinate UberHealth / ModivCare ride setups.
- Track, order and organize comfort supplies.
- Act as liaison with community partners (Shepherd’s House, Oasis, HOST team, REACH).
- Transport the mobile clinic to each scheduled site safely and on time.
- Ensure the vehicle always has sufficient fuel levels.
- Set up the electrical system, signs and clinic reception area before clinic begins.
- Complete vehicle logs including safety checks.
Qualifications
- Drivers License required.
- CDL preferred.
- Critical thinking and problem solving skills.
- Must have excellent written, verbal, telephone and interpersonal communication skills.
- Familiarity/experience with client interaction on the telephone.
- Knowledge of available basic community services.
- Basic typing skills (such as 30 WPM).
- Basic personal computer skills and comfort with Microsoft Windows® operating system.
- EHR experience, EPIC experience a plus.
