About the Role
NextCare Urgent Care is seeking an energetic and enthusiastic Medical Assistant to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. We prioritize customer-friendly and passionate employees as we grow an organization where patients and staff come first.
Responsibilities
- Assist providers with exams, including taking patient vitals, procedures, and other direct patient care tasks under provider supervision and within the scope of practice.
- Administer medications per policy and provider direction, adhering to all safety protocols.
- Perform blood draws, urine collection (including employer drug screens), splinting, casting, and various physicals such as sports physicals.
- Conduct urgent care-specific duties, including ear lavage, wound care, and oxygen administration.
- Promptly report unusual patient occurrences, medication events, or safety concerns to the provider or Clinic Manager.
- Follow laboratory and clinical accreditation policies, including proficiency in EMR/EHR systems.
- Perform moderate-complexity clinical testing (e.g., Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis) in accordance with COLA-approved SOP manuals.
- Execute and document daily instrument calibrations, quality control (QC) tracking, and corrective actions for out-of-range values.
- Maintain orderly, verifiable, and audit-ready logs for pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical activities to ensure COLA inspection readiness.
- Participate in mandatory competency assessments (semiannually in the first year, annually thereafter) covering all six CLIA-mandated elements.
- Conduct and document blind proficiency testing (PT) samples per anti-commingling regulations.
- Accession, process, centrifuge, and evaluate sample integrity, reporting data accurately into the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
- Recognize and promptly notify providers of critical, life-threatening results.
- Support front office reception as needed, including monitoring patient flow, processing discharges, preparing charges, collecting payments, and issuing receipts.
Requirements
Arizona
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Completed an APPROVED (accredited) Medical Assistant training program.
- OR completed an UNAPPROVED (non-accredited) Medical Assistant training program AND a National Certification through one of the following:
- American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) – Certified Medical Assistant (CMA).
- American Medical Technologists (AMT) – Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).
- National Healthcareer Association (NHA) – Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA).
All Other States
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Completed an APPROVED (accredited) Medical Assistant training program.
- OR completed an UNAPPROVED (non-accredited) Medical Assistant training program AND a National Certification through one of the following:
- American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) – Certified Medical Assistant (CMA).
- American Medical Technologists (AMT) – Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).
- National Healthcareer Association (NHA) – Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA).
- OR completed an UNAPPROVED Medical Assistant training program AND one year of employment as a Medical Assistant post-program completion.
- OR verifiable work experience directly supervised by a Provider or Physician Group for a minimum of 2,000 hours or one year.
Other MA education or experience may be considered upon review and approval from the Compliance and Regulatory department.
