About the Role

NextCare Urgent Care is seeking an energetic and enthusiastic Medical Assistant to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. We prioritize customer-friendly and passionate employees as we grow, with a focus on delivering top-tier care to patients.

Responsibilities

  • Assist providers with exams, including taking patient vitals, procedures, and other direct patient care tasks under provider supervision and within the Medical Assistant scope of practice.
  • Administer medications per policy and provider direction, adhering to all safety protocols.
  • Perform blood draws as directed by the provider.
  • Collect urine samples for testing, including employer drug screens.
  • Apply splints and casts as needed.
  • Conduct various physicals, such as sports physicals.
  • Perform urgent care-specific duties, including ear lavage, wound care, and oxygen administration.
  • Promptly report unusual patient occurrences, including medication events, via incident reports.
  • Notify the Clinic Manager of any patient or employee safety concerns.
  • Follow laboratory and clinical accreditation policies and guidelines.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in EMR/EHR systems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or described by company policy.

Additional Laboratory Responsibilities (if applicable)

  • Perform moderate-complexity clinical testing (e.g., Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis) in strict accordance with the laboratory’s COLA-approved SOP manual.
  • Execute and document daily instrument calibrations, quality control (QC) tracking, and corrective actions for out-of-range values before reporting patient results.
  • Maintain orderly, verable, and audit-ready logs for pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical activities to ensure seamless COLA on-site surveys.
  • Participate in mandatory competency assessments (semiannually in the first year, then annually) covering all six CLIA-mandated elements.
  • Successfully complete and document blind proficiency testing (PT) samples, adhering to anti-commingling regulations.
  • Accession, process, centrifuge, and evaluate sample integrity, reporting data accurately into the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
  • Recognize and promptly notify providers of critical, life-threatening results.

Front Office Reception Support (if applicable)

  • Keep patients and families informed of wait times.
  • Monitor patient flow and ensure the clinic and front reception area run smoothly.
  • Process patients for discharge, including preparing charges, collecting payments, obtaining signatures, and issuing receipts.

Impact

The Medical Assistant ensures the clinic operates efficiently, optimizing patient flow while delivering respectful, dignified care. They support both front-office and back-office functions to meet patient needs effectively.

Requirements

Arizona

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an approved (accredited) Medical Assistant training program.
  • OR completion of an unapproved (non-accredited) Medical Assistant training program and a national certification from one of the following:
    • American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) – Certified Medical Assistant (CMA).
    • American Medical Technologists (AMT) – Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).
    • National Healthcareer Association (NHA) – Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA).

All Other States

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an approved (accredited) Medical Assistant training program.
  • OR completion of an unapproved (non-accredited) Medical Assistant training program and a national certification from one of the following:
    • American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) – Certified Medical Assistant (CMA).
    • American Medical Technologists (AMT) – Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).
    • National Healthcareer Association (NHA) – Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA).
  • OR completion of an unapproved Medical Assistant training program and one year of employment as a Medical Assistant post-program.
  • OR verifiable work experience directly supervised by a provider or physician group for a minimum of 2,000 hours or one year.

Other MA education or experience may be considered upon review and approval from the Compliance and Regulatory department.
