Medical Assistant / Medical Front Office

About the Role

NextCare Urgent Care is seeking an energetic and enthusiastic Medical Assistant to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. We prioritize both patients and employees, offering a dynamic workplace where customer service and passion for healthcare drive success.

Responsibilities

• Assist providers with exams, procedures, and direct patient care, including taking vitals, under provider supervision and within scope of practice.
• Administer medications per policy and provider direction, adhering to all safety protocols.
• Perform blood draws, urine collection (including employer drug screens), splinting, casting, and various physicals (e.g., sports physicals).
• Provide urgent care-specific procedures such as ear lavage, wound care, and oxygen administration.
• Promptly report unusual patient occurrences, medication events, or safety concerns to the provider or Clinic Manager.
• Follow laboratory and clinical accreditation policies, including proficiency in EMR/EHR systems.
• Perform additional duties as assigned or described by company policy.

Laboratory Responsibilities

• Analytical Testing: Perform moderate-complexity clinical testing (e.g., Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis) in accordance with the laboratory’s COLA-approved SOP manual.
• Quality Control & Calibration: Execute and document daily instrument calibrations, quality control tracking, and corrective actions for out-of-range values before reporting patient results.
• COLA Inspection Readiness: Maintain orderly, verifiable, and audit-ready logs for pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical activities to ensure seamless biennial COLA surveys.
• Competency & Training: Participate in mandatory, documented competency assessments (semiannually in the first year, annually thereafter) covering all six CLIA-mandated elements.
• Proficiency Testing (PT): Test and document blind proficiency samples exactly like patient specimens, adhering to anti-commingling regulations.
• Specimen & EMR Processing: Accession, process, centrifuge, and evaluate sample integrity, reporting data accurately into the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
• Critical Value Notification: Recognize and promptly notify attending healthcare providers of critical, life-threatening results.

Front Office Support

• Inform patients and families of wait times and monitor patient flow.
• Process patients for discharge, including preparing charges, collecting payments, obtaining signatures, and issuing receipts.

Impact

The Medical Assistant ensures smooth clinic operations and optimal patient flow while delivering respectful, dignified care. They support both front-office and back-office functions to meet patient needs effectively.

Requirements

Arizona:

• High school diploma or GED (copy of diploma or official transcripts required if unverifiable through background check).
• Completion of an approved (accredited) Medical Assistant training program, OR
• Completion of an unapproved (non-accredited) Medical Assistant training program AND a National Certification from one of the following:
  • American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) – Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)
  • American Medical Technologists (AMT) – Registered Medical Assistant (RMA)
  • National Healthcareer Association (NHA) – Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA)

All Other States:

• High school diploma or GED (copy of diploma or official transcripts required if unverifiable through background check).
• Completion of an approved (accredited) Medical Assistant training program, OR
• Completion of an unapproved (non-accredited) Medical Assistant training program AND one of the following:
  • National Certification (CMA, RMA, or CCMA), OR
  • One (1) year of employment as a Medical Assistant post-program completion, OR
  • Verifiable work experience directly supervised by a Provider or Physician Group for a minimum of 2,000 hours or 1 year.
• Other MA education or experience may be considered with approval from the Compliance and Regulatory department.
