Responsibilities
- Assists provider with exams (including patient vitals), procedures, and other processes related to direct patient care under direct supervision of the Provider and within the scope of practice of a Medical Assistant.
- Administers all forms of medications per policy and Provider direction, adhering to all safety protocols and procedures for medication administration.
- Performs blood draws as directed by the Provider.
- Responsible for urine collection for various testing, including employer drug screens.
- Performs splinting and casting.
- Conducts various types of physicals, such as sports physicals.
- Performs other urgent care-specific duties, such as ear lavage, wound care, and oxygen administration.
- Notifies the provider on duty promptly of all unusual patient occurrences, including medication events, via an incident report.
- Promptly notifies the Clinic Manager of patient or employee safety concerns.
- Follows guidelines and requirements of laboratory and clinical accreditation policies.
- Proficient in EMR/EHR.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or described by Company policy.
Additional Laboratory Responsibilities May Include:
- Analytical Testing: Perform moderate-complexity clinical testing across authorized disciplines (e.g., Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis) in strict accordance with the laboratory's COLA-approved SOP manual.
- Quality Control & Calibration: Execute and document daily instrument calibrations, quality control (QC) tracking, and corrective actions for out-of-range values prior to reporting patient results.
- COLA Inspection Readiness: Maintain orderly, verifiable, and audit-ready logs for all pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical activities to ensure seamless biennial COLA on-site surveys.
- Competency & Training: Participate in mandatory, documented competency assessments (semiannually in the first year of employment, and annually thereafter) covering all six CLIA-mandated elements.
- Proficiency Testing (PT): Successfully test and document blind proficiency testing samples exactly like patient specimens, adhering to strict anti-commingling regulations.
- Specimen & EMR Processing: Accession, process, centrifuge, and evaluate sample integrity, reporting data accurately into the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
- Critical Value Notification: Promptly recognize critical, life-threatening results and follow immediate notification protocols to the attending healthcare provider.
Front Office Reception Support (as needed):
- Keeps patients and families informed of wait times.
- Monitors the flow of patients.
- Processes patients for discharge, including preparing charges, collecting payment, obtaining necessary signatures, and issuing receipts.

They help maintain smooth clinic and front reception operations, optimize patient flow, and provide patient care services in the back office to meet specific patient needs.
Requirements
Arizona:
- Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent.
- Completed an APPROVED (accredited) Medical Assistant training program.
- OR completed an UNAPPROVED (non-accredited) Medical Assistant training program AND a National Certification through one of the following:
- American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) – Certified Medical Assistant (CMA).
- American Medical Technologists (AMT) – Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).
- National Healthcareer Association (NHA) – Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA).
All Other States:
- Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent.
- Completed an APPROVED (accredited) Medical Assistant training program.
- OR completed an UNAPPROVED (non-accredited) Medical Assistant training program AND a National Certification through one of the following:
- American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) – Certified Medical Assistant (CMA).
- American Medical Technologists (AMT) – Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).
- National Healthcareer Association (NHA) – Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA).
- OR completed an UNAPPROVED medical assistant training program AND was employed as a medical assistant for one (1) year or more after program completion.
- OR must have VERIFIABLE work experience directly supervised by a Provider or Physician Group for a minimum of 2000 hours or 1 year.
Other MA education or experience may be considered upon review and approval from Compliance and Regulatory department.
