About the Role
Performs both front office and back office duties under general supervision, including related support services.
Responsibilities
- Assists with the day-to-day operations of the front and back office.
- Ensures timely and efficient completion of all medical assistant tasks and duties.
- Coordinates referrals and patient communication.
- Administers injections and assists with non-invasive and direct patient care procedures, such as EKGs, vision and hearing screenings, and waived testing.
- Assists with medical examinations within the medical assistant scope of practice.
- Obtains patient medical history, vital signs, and ensures completion and documentation of all quality metrics in compliance with regulatory and accreditation agencies.
- Participates in and prepares for Center internal/external audits.
- Performs medical assistant duties across all areas.
- Maintains inventory of medical supplies, immunizations, and operating supplies.
- Ensures equipment is calibrated, charged, and cleaned.
- Stocks required medical supplies in exam rooms.
- Registers patients, updates patient information, and enters demographics and other required data.
- Verifies and activates patient insurance plans as needed.
- Ensures accurate posting of encounter data to appropriate funding/insurance plans.
- Completes end-of-day reconciliation reports, secures cash, and ensures deposits into the safe.
- Prepares for the next day’s clinic by identifying appointment types, chart preparation, updating proof of income, pre-registering patients, and screening for program eligibility.
- Provides exceptional customer service internally and externally, greeting customers and addressing concerns.
- Assists with other departments as appropriate.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum one (1) year of experience as a Medical Assistant and/or a Medical Assistant Diploma and/or a Medical Assistant Certification.
- Experience with EMR/EHR preferred.
- Experience in a primary health care setting preferred.
- Knowledgeable of personal computers.
- Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS), American Heart Association.
- Ability to travel to other clinic sites as needed.
- Scheduled hours and/or work locations are subject to change.
Physical and Mental Requirements
- Finger Dexterity: Using fingers for small movements such as typing or picking up small objects; normal fine and gross motor control of fingers and hands.
- Talking: Frequently conveying detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, clearly, or quickly.
- Hearing: Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information; hear whispered voice at five (5) feet.
- Repetitive Motions: Frequently and regularly using the wrists, hands, and fingers.
- Visual: Visual acuity necessary for proper evaluation of a patient and to prepare or inspect documents or other materials; ability to accurately view computer monitors.
- Physical: Sitting 20-30% of the time and standing/walking 70-80% of the time; lift up to 25 lbs; push and pull up to 45 lbs; able to bend at the waist, twist, and turn along the axial plane.
