About the role

Banner Health is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant to support a Nurse Practitioner in the Sleep Medicine program across two locations in Northern Colorado. This role involves daily chart preparation, patient rooming, vital signs documentation, downloading test results, and collaborating with Home Sleep Study and In-Lab Sleep Study teams. Additional responsibilities include medication and test authorizations, and communication via EMR, phone, and other electronic methods.

Locations & schedule

  • Locations: 2010 16th St #A (Greeley) and 1900 Boise Ave #220 (Loveland)
  • Weekly schedule: Monday – Greeley, Tuesday/Wednesday – Loveland, Thursday/Friday – Greeley
  • Shift: Monday–Friday, primarily 8am–5pm (hours may vary to follow provider schedule); no weekends or major holidays
  • Bonus: $1,000 hire-on bonus for external candidates (details provided by recruiter during interview)

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for exam and treatment by taking and recording vital signs, symptoms, chief complaint, and pain scores; report changes in patient condition to clinician
  • Assist providers with exams and minor in-office procedures, including blood pressure, respiration, heart rate/pulse, temperature, phlebotomies, ear irrigation, and EKGs; act as chaperon as needed
  • Follow universal blood and body fluid precautions and use personal protective equipment
  • Prioritize patient flow through the clinical process
  • Coordinate and manage patient care including pre-certifications, referrals, authorizations, prescriptions, and scheduling for clinic, hospital, and ancillary treatments/tests
  • Communicate test results to patients
  • Act as a resource to clinicians to provide optimal patient care
  • Administer medications in accordance with established policies and procedures as directed
  • Provide clerical support for patient notifications and documentation, including complete medical records (labs, authorizations, X-rays, hospital records, and previous care pertaining to each visit)
  • Provide complete and accurate billing information related to patient encounters in a timely fashion
  • Maintain clean, functional environment including cleaning and disinfection of equipment, exam rooms, and storage areas; disinfect equipment and instruments using appropriate solutions following sterilization procedures; follow manufacturer's recommendations and OSHA guidelines for hazardous substances
  • Perform basic equipment maintenance and coordinate needed repairs
  • Order supplies as directed and stock patient care areas; handle medication ordering and tasks related to medications (expired medications/equipment and recalls)
  • Develop and maintain effective communication with all external and internal customers; exemplify service orientation and team concept
  • Complete all onboarding/orientation activities, including simulation training, as needed or directed

Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge
  • Completion of an approved medical assistant training program as defined by state regulations
  • Active Medical Assistant Certification required (must meet Meaningful Use requirements)
  • BLS certification required
  • Active Medical Assistant certification from one of the following:
    • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) with proof of current membership from American Medical Technologists (AMT)
    • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) with proof of current membership from American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
    • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) with proof of current membership from National Health Career Association (NHA) – test administered after 7/1/2017 only
    • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) with proof of current membership from National Certified Competency Testing (NCCT)
  • Strong computer skills, including ability to work with medical software
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple changing priorities in an effective and organized fashion

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with office medical procedures and treatments
  • Knowledge of insurance, managed care operations, EMR, and scheduling software
  • Additional related education and/or experience

Pay

$21.01 – $31.51 / hour. Actual pay determined at offer based on years of relevant work experience, education, certifications, skills, and geographic location, along with review of current employees in similar roles to ensure pay equity.
