Medical Assistant (MA)

About the role

This position is responsible for general Medical Assistant duties in dealing with patients in the clinics. It maintains supplies and provides direct patient care under the supervision of the office manager and/or physician. The role also supports the Customer Service Representative with clerical duties such as scheduling and filing, may answer the telephone appropriately, route calls correctly, and assemble patient charts. Flexibility is required to adapt to changing needs, acquire new skills, and perform different tasks as the environment evolves.

Responsibilities

• Maintain medical supplies
• Provide direct patient care under supervision of office manager and/or physician
• Support Customer Service Representative with clerical duties (scheduling, filing)
• Answer telephone appropriately and route calls correctly
• Assemble patient charts
• Remain flexible to acquire new or different skills as needed
• Adapt to a changing work environment

Requirements

• Oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Organizational and problem‑solving skills
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and exercise independent judgment
• Capability to work in a fast‑paced, stressful environment while juggling priorities
• Medical Assistant (MA) certification/license required
• Graduate of an accredited school for medical assistants, or completion of an alternate training program
• Active national certification/registration from one of: AAMA, AMCA, AMT, NHA, NCCT, NAHP
• Graduate of a military medical specialist course (EMR, EMT, or Paramedic) with completion/certification
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association
• Previous Medical Assistant experience preferred
• Bilingual preferred
• Appropriate knowledge for performing patient care
• Computer experience preferred
• May be exposed to infection when cleaning contaminated rooms
• Work in a fast‑paced, changing environment
• Normal or corrected vision and hearing required
• Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English
• Dexterity to operate equipment
• Knowledge of medical terminology and verbal/clerical skills
• Work performed indoors
• Walking and standing for much of the shift
• Occasional long shifts may be required
• Occasional lifting and transferring patients unassisted
• Ability to lift or carry up to 50 pounds
• Fast‑paced work environment

Pay

SEIU Pay Range: $25.65 to $38.55 Dependent on Experience
