About the role

This position supports patient care by escorting patients, recording vital signs, assisting physicians with clinical procedures, performing EKGs, and managing patient flow. Additional responsibilities include scheduling diagnostic tests, maintaining patient charts, and ensuring compliance with privacy, safety, and infection control policies.

Responsibilities

  • Determines patient care needs and directs patients accordingly.
  • Prepares patient charts prior to appointments, including x-rays and lab work; arranges special equipment as needed.
  • Sets up exam rooms, assists physicians with exams, and monitors patient flow.
  • Prepares patients for examinations and obtains/records vital signs.
  • Ensures healthcare delivery areas are fully stocked, organized, cleaned, and disinfected.
  • Maintains files, records, and office supply inventory; handles photocopying, faxing, mailing, and prioritizing incoming mail.
  • Ensures physician orders for medications and treatments are implemented by appropriate staff.
  • Provides coverage/relief for co-workers and communicates patient status when doing so.
  • Assists physicians with exams and procedures.
  • Records patient information in charts/EHR according to Joint Commission standards.
  • Obtains blood samples by venipuncture or capillary methods, considering patient age.
  • Screens and processes specimens according to established guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant Certificate/Diploma program.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Current Medical Laboratory Personnel License – NV (or obtain within 30 days of hire).
  • Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) certification (required within LA City only; obtain within 30 days of hire if applicable).

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1 year of experience (combined education/experience may substitute).
  • Experience in an acute care setting.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Familiarity with word processing, GECB, COR, Cerner, ProSolv, and scheduling software.

Pay

The hourly rate range for this position is $22.00 - $35.55. Factors considered include scope of responsibilities, work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, and external market conditions.
