Responsibilities
- Escorts patients to exam rooms, obtains and records patient vital signs and medication lists.
- Monitors patient flow and assists physicians with minor clinical procedures.
- Performs EKGs and prepares patient charts with pertinent medical information.
- Schedules diagnostic tests ordered by the physician as needed.
- Performs various office and clerical duties, including maintaining files, records, and inventory.
- Ensures patient’s right to privacy, safety, and confidentiality is maintained.
- Maintains a safe environment in accordance with standards, policies, and safety regulations.
- Ensures compliance with infection control policies.
- Determines patient care needs and directs patients accordingly.
- Prepares patient charts prior to appointments, including x-rays and lab work, and arranges special equipment as needed.
- Sets up exam rooms, assists physicians with exams, and monitors patient flow.
- Prepares patients for examinations and obtains/records vital signs.
- Ensures healthcare delivery areas are fully stocked, organized, cleaned, and disinfected.
- Maintains equipment and office supply inventory; handles photocopying, faxing, mailing, and prioritizing incoming mail.
- Ensures physician orders for medications and treatments are implemented by appropriate staff.
- Provides coverage for co-workers and communicates patient status when doing so.
- Assists physicians with exams and procedures.
- Records patient information in charts/EHR according to Joint Commission standards.
- Obtains blood specimens by venipuncture or capillary methods, considering patient age.
- Receives and screens specimens for acceptability based on established guidelines.
- Processes, distributes, or packages all specimens received.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate from an accredited school of Medical Assistant Certificate/Diploma program.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1 year of experience; combined education/experience may substitute for minimum experience.
- Experience in an acute care setting.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Familiarity with word processing, GECB, COR, Cerner, ProSolv, and scheduling software.
Required Licenses/Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association.
- Current Medical Laboratory Personnel License – NV. If not held upon hire, must be obtained within 30 days and maintained.
- Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) – required within LA City only; must be obtained within 30 days if not held upon hire.

Pay
The hourly rate range for this position is $22.00 - $34.18. When extending an offer, factors such as scope and responsibilities, candidate experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, and external market considerations are taken into account.
Schedule
Full Time, 10-hour rotating shifts.
