Essential Functions And Duties

  • Escorts patients to exam rooms and prepares for physician assessment.
  • Records and maintains patient's medical data in patient's medical chart.
  • Affords assistance to physicians in answering phone requests from patients and/or other medical professionals and institutions.
  • Performs a variety of physician-requested ancillary and/or surgical patient procedures (excluding the administration of IV medication).
  • Maintains equipment, instruments supply inventory levels.

  • Complies with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures, supporting the organization’s corporate integrity efforts by acting in an ethical and appropriate manner, reporting known or suspected violations of applicable rules, and cooperating fully with all organizational investigations and proceedings.

Customer Service and Patient Care

  • Delivers customer service and/or patient care in a manner that promotes goodwill, is timely, efficient, and accurate.
  • May perform additional duties of similar complexity within the organization, as required or assigned.

Education and Training

  • Education Required: High school diploma or GED.
  • Preferred: Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.

Licensure/Certification/Registration

  • Licensure/Certification/Registration Required: Current MA Certification from one of the following: The American Medical Technology Association (AMT), The National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), The American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), The National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP) Certification, National Healthcareer Association (NHA) or current Oregon licensure as an intermediate or paramedic level EMT, LPN, RN, or Athletic Trainer.
  • AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification.

Experience

  • Experience Required: Must have basic knowledge of ICD-10, CM/CPT/HCPCS coding conventions and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of medical practice management information systems.
  • Basic knowledge of physician office documentation standards.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality and meet all HIPAA requirements.
  • Candidates with NHA certification that qualified due to work experience rather than graduation from an accredited Medical Assisting Program will be required to have one (1) year of experience in Medical Assisting.
