Medical Assistant (LPN/CMA/RMA/EMT)

This .775 FTE (31 hours/week) position is based at our Roseville clinic with potential for coverage at our Lino Lakes and Hugo clinics. This position is eligible for a $1,000 sign-on bonus.

Schedule

• Monday: 8:45am – 6:15pm
• Tuesday: 7:15am – 2:15pm
• Wednesday: 8:00am – 4:30pm
• Thursday: 6:45am – 2:45pm

Responsibilities

• Perform functions that support/provide patient care:
  • Room patients according to rooming and/or clinic guidelines.
  • Obtain and record vital signs and other pertinent physical measurements accurately.
  • Administer medication and clinical procedures (according to authorized policy and demonstrating proficiency) and document according to North Suburban Family Physicians policy, including DISCUS or AIMS assessment.
  • Review charts for pertinent information relevant to today’s encounter, including Prepared Practice work.
  • Provide and document needed/requested health educational materials to patients.
  • Handle patients and their records in a private and confidential manner per clinic policies.
  • Seek medical and/or nursing assistance when encountering an acutely ill patient or a patient with a changing condition.
  • Prepare exam rooms and treatment rooms for patient examination and procedures.
  • Prepare patients for medical interventions and assist providers as needed.
• Prepare charts and maintain station records:
  • Check MSRs for completion and route appropriately.
  • Prepare lab, x-ray, and miscellaneous forms when requested.
  • Process drug refills according to clinic protocols.
  • Monitor station logs (e.g., pap, pathology) as assigned.
  • Prepare charts for patient appointments according to established practices.
• Facilitate timely and accurate flow of communication within the clinic:
  • Accurately receive and relay messages and test results to the appropriate person/location.
  • Gather necessary information from callers and relay it to providers for follow-up.
  • Inform the reception desk of provider’s schedule status.
  • Assist in coordination of urgent and non-urgent provider schedule changes.
  • Perform patient correspondence when requested.
  • Assist patients in completing forms when appropriate.
• Support infection control and OSHA standards:
  • Clean and sterilize instruments and equipment according to procedure.
  • Complete scheduled cleaning requirements for designated work areas.
  • Implement infection control procedures and adhere to protective clothing requirements.
• Maintain clinic supplies and equipment:
  • Ensure department inventory requests are processed and delivered timely.
  • Process supply requisitions according to clinic procedures.
  • Check received supplies against packing slips and report damages/discrepancies.
  • Prepare returns for shipment with appropriate documentation.
  • Stock designated areas adequately and check expiration dates.
  • Maintain prescription sample supply cabinet per clinic protocol.
  • Keep an inventory of instruments and equipment current.
  • Calibrate and maintain instruments and equipment in proper working order.
  • Document all maintenance activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Work at any North Suburban Family Physicians clinic as needed.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED.
• One of the following credentials:
  • LPN: Graduate of an accredited nursing program and current LPN license in Minnesota.
  • MA: Graduate of an accredited MA program OR Graduate of an accredited EMT program and current EMT License.
  • RMA: Graduate of an accredited MA program and current Registration through AAMA or AMT.
  • CMA: Graduate of an accredited MA program and current Medical Assistant Certification through AAMA or AMT.
• Current BLS certification for health professionals through the American Heart Association or Red Cross (in-person certification required).
• Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including appropriate use of English grammar and spelling.
• Demonstrated ability to function with multiple priorities and interruptions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Current Medical Assistant Certification or Registration through AAMA or AMT.
• At least six months of recent (within the last 3 years) experience in a direct patient care setting.
• Computer skills.

Physical Requirements

• Possess speech, hearing, and sight skills to perform the functions of the position.
• Proficient in speaking, reading, and writing English.
• Body mobility, coordinated dexterity of hand, ear, and eye, sensory acuity, and verbal ability.
• Ability to work walking, standing, and/or sitting for prolonged periods.
• Ability to lift, carry, bend, reach, squat, and kneel on an occasional basis.
• Ability to read, analyze, and collect data.
