Medical Assistant: Lead-ECHA

About the Role

The Lead Medical Assistant serves as a resource to other Medical Assistants within their office by mentoring, training, and leading day-to-day operations. In addition to their leadership duties, they perform standard Medical Assistant functions such as assisting patients and conducting diagnostic procedures, including EKGs, phlebotomy, injections, and vitals.

Responsibilities

• Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
• Serves as a resource to other Medical Assistants by training, mentoring, and assisting in the direction of daily operations; may assist in the performance evaluation process of standard Medical Assistants.
• Escorts patients to exam rooms and ensures proper identification.
• Performs and documents vital signs, clinical care quality measures, and medical history information.
• Remains proficient and knowledgeable regarding the use and documentation requirements within information technology systems within established scope of practice.
• Assists physicians with examinations and various diagnostic procedures, including performing EKGs, venipuncture, and injections in the office to provide quality patient care.
• Adheres to HIPAA privacy and security requirements.
• Orders clinical supplies to maintain inventory and facilitate smooth office operations.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• 2 years of Medical Assistant experience.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and medical office procedures.
• Proficiency in customer interaction and use of medical equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret patient charts, including medication sheets, diets, history, physicals, and test results.
• Clinical skills necessary for patient care, including history taking, therapeutic planning, and monitoring.
• Knowledge of clinical performance improvement factors to positively influence patient care quality.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (within 90 days of hire).
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential from the American Association of Medical Assistants.

Physical Demands

• Ability to lift and carry 40-50 lbs (e.g., pushing/pulling patients on beds or stretchers requiring 29 lbs of push force, lateral transfers up to 50 lbs of a patient’s weight).
• Frequent to continuous standing and walking (patient transporters may walk 8-10 miles per shift).
• May be required to perform activities specific to the role, including kneeling, bending, squatting, and performing CPR.
