About the Role

The Medical Assistant, Lead will supervise back office staff and perform various patient care activities and related services under the direction of professional staff.

Schedule

Flexible; may require some evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise back office medical assistant staff and oversee patient flow.
  • Interview and exit patients, complete medical agency and consent forms, ensure patient understanding, and obtain signatures.
  • Check charts for completeness, errors, signatures, and appropriate assembly.
  • Counsel individuals regarding program services.
  • Perform phlebotomy, injections, vitals, and assist with patient exams as directed by the provider (e.g., visual acuity tests, audiometric screening, venipuncture, and injections).
  • Route patients to maintain clinic flow.
  • Maintain and stock dispensary; clean, stock, and maintain exam rooms.
  • Assist providers as necessary.
  • Process lab specimens per lab procedure manual and medical protocol.
  • Perform paperwork duties, including recording and filing lab results, providing results, and flagging abnormal test results.
  • Route charts to appropriate personnel at the end of clinic sessions.
  • Perform front office duties, such as answering phones, scheduling, chart retrieval, and patient check-in.
  • Strict adherence to policy and procedure manual.
  • Other duties as assigned by Clinic Manager, Operations Director, or Medical Director.

Requirements

  • Medical Assistant Certificate, Certified Medical Assistant, or higher.
  • High School Diploma and/or GED equivalent (preferred but not required).
  • Six-month supervisory experience preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate a team and hold them accountable.
  • Ability to maintain composure in fast-paced and stressful situations.
  • Commitment to goals and philosophy of Northeast Community Clinic.
  • Current CPR and/or BLS Certification.
  • Valid State Identification.

Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office/Word/Excel/Outlook.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
  • Ability to work as a team player and independently.
  • Reliable transportation; must be able to travel from facility to facility.
  • This position requires 10% travel outside the local area.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • OSHA Category 1 – Involves exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.
  • Majority of work is non-sedentary in nature.
  • Regularly required to communicate; frequently required to use repetitive motions, move, and remain stationary.
  • Regularly push, pull, and lift up to 20 pounds; occasionally push, pull, and lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Must possess mobility to work in standard office and clinic settings.
  • Stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions, read printed materials, use a computer, and communicate in person and over the telephone.
