About the role
As delegated by and under indirect supervision of clinic nursing supervisor, and with direction from charge nurse, staff nurse, or practitioner, supports practitioner and clinical team to accomplish proactive patient management. Performs variety of technical, clerical, receptionist and patient care duties to assist practitioners and other members of health care team in providing high quality patient care through health care system.
Responsibilities
- Supports practitioner and clinical team in patient management.
- Performs clerical, receptionist, and patient care duties.
- Assists with minor procedures and office-based surgical procedures.
- Draws up and labels medications for immediate use.
- Responds to non-clinical related patient complaints and inquiries.
- Trains and mentors medical assistant staff.
- Maintains operational strategies and process improvements for the department/unit.
- Prepares sterile and unsterile fields and assists with procedures.
- Coordinates efforts with nursing supervisor, staff, and other departments.
- Documents patient care interactions and activities.
- Ensures equipment is available and in clean, safe, and operable condition.
- Maintains a clean, safe, and well-equipped environment.
- Processes referrals and relays diagnostic results to practitioners.
- Communicates with patients and family regarding preparation and follow-up for diagnostic tests, medical procedures, surgeries, and treatments.
- Assists with receptionist duties, schedules appointments, and prepares monthly calendars.
- Orders and maintains supplies to maintain inventory control and cost containment.
- Prioritizes and coordinates daily workflow and activities.
- Assigns medical assistant staff as appropriate to perform secondary duties.
- Develops and monitors work schedules and assignments.
- Participates in projects as requested.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a certified medical assistant program.
- Current CPR certification.
- Experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and procedures.
- Basic computer skills and proficiency with electronic health record systems.
