Medical Assistant - Internal Agency - Jackson

Responsibilities

• Assists physician in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient needs during examinations, treatments and emergency situations.
• Affixes diagnostic/therapeutic procedures, ensuring procedures are provided in a safe, clean, competent manner/environment.
• Maintains a clean, safe, well-stocked patient care area, including patient examination rooms.
• Administers oral, rectal, subcutaneous, and intra-muscular medications and/or injections.
• Maintains a complete, accurate, legible medical record reflecting the patient's condition, medication, treatment, and any other pertinent information relevant to total patient care according to professional standards and procedures.
• Provides telephone triage/communication, calls in prescriptions, orders diagnostic studies as defined by protocol or per physician instructions.
• Thoroughly educates and explains procedures to patients and family members, and assists them in coping with illnesses and hospitalizations under the direction of the physician.
• Maintains confidentiality regarding patient and business functions of the office.
• Demonstrates a positive customer service-oriented attitude/behavior.
• Functions independently and assumes responsibility for actions in clinical procedures in accordance with ability and training after clinical ability has been demonstrated and documented.
• Maintains a working knowledge of business office protocol/procedures.
• Aids in identifying methods of improving patient care.
• Seeks out and pursues educational opportunities.
• Obtains continuing education units to maintain certification or registration as a Medical Assistant.
• Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements

• Prolonged periods of standing, walking, or sitting while on duty.
• Lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds with or without assistance.
• Transferring, repositioning patients.
• Reaching, stooping, bending, kneeing, and crouching for patient care functions.
• Visual and auditory acuity and manual dexterity essential to performing designated duties required.
• Optimal auditory acuity required.
• Manual dexterity involving the handling of equipment and instruments or needles is essential to performing assigned duties.
• Ability to perform effectively in a stressful and fast-paced environment.
• Ability to pass all required health and other screening tests.

Qualifications

• Education: Graduate of an approved school for Medical Assistants.
• Work Experience: Two years experience in a physician office setting.
• Ability to make decisions and initiate action under stress and in critical situations.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Skills

• Current CPR certification.
• Current Certification or Registration as a Medical Assistant.
• Successful completion of St. Dominic Medication Administration Review and Examination within one month of employment.
