Medical Assistant III (Procedural) - Pediatrics (Katy)

About the role

UTHealth Houston, Texas’ resource for healthcare education, innovation, scientific discovery, and patient care, is seeking a Medical Assistant for its new Pediatric Katy Clinic in Katy, Texas. The Medical Assistant supports multiple pediatric specialty clinics by assisting with in‑office procedures, managing patient messages and in‑basket tasks, and helping coordinate care for children with complex medical needs. This role is essential to delivering high‑quality, patient‑centered care while adhering to UT Physicians clinical standards and best practices across a variety of pediatric specialties.

Responsibilities

• Promote quality patient care and customer service/satisfaction in all duties.
• Participate in planning and preparing for patient visits, ensuring schedules, test results, and clinic‑specific requirements are ready.
• Room patients, document chief complaint, vital signs, medication list, allergies, smoking history, and other required information.
• Inform patients of delays and progress during clinical appointments.
• Perform hearing and vision testing, EKG, spirometry, point‑of‑care testing, specimen collection, equipment cleaning/reprocessing, and other procedures as competency‑validated.
• Prepare and stock exam rooms and clinic supplies daily/weekly; clean rooms between patients.
• Assist with routine and specialty procedures.
• Schedule follow‑up appointments or referrals and perform routine clerical duties (photocopying, scanning, faxing).
• Handle telephone messaging and in‑person screening with appropriate follow‑up.
• Respond to emergency situations.
• Maintain privacy and confidentiality per HIPAA guidelines.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Certification/Skills: Use and care of standard clinic equipment; Basic Life Support (BLS) by American Heart Association (AHA) required; one of the following certifications required:
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – AAMA
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – AMT
  • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) – NCT
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) – NHA
• Education: High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an approved Medical Assistant training program OR one (1) year of experience (in addition to the three (3) years of experience required) and certification may substitute for the training program.
• Experience: Minimum three (3) years of experience in a healthcare setting.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to exert up to 50 lb occasionally, up to 20 lb frequently, and up to 10 lb constantly to move objects.
• Security Sensitive: Position is security‑sensitive under Texas Education Code 51.215 and Texas Government Code 411.094; background checks related to critical infrastructure and foreign adversary connections may be required.

Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, onsite at the Katy Clinic.
