Medical Assistant III
About the role
The Medical Assistant is responsible to provide assistance to medical providers at the Belknap Campus and/or Health Sciences Center (HSC) clinics. This position manages patient flow; situates patients in exam rooms; takes patient vitals; assists physicians with exams; completes referrals; draws blood; gives immunizations and injections; and performs EKGs, diagnostic tests, and triage lab tests. The Medical Assistant maintains and rotates clinic stock, tracks expiration dates. This position also assists with new hire and temporary staff training. The Medical Assistant is also cross-trained to perform front desk duties and procedures at both campus clinics.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Manages patient flow, situates patients in exam rooms, and takes patient vitals
- Cleans exams rooms daily and between patients and maintains exam room stock inventory
- Administers immunizations and other injections, assists with Pap smears and minor surgeries, draws blood, and assists providers during appointments as needed
- Performs EKGs, other diagnostic tests, and triage lab tests
- Maintains and stocks medication and vaccines, rotates stock, and checks medication expiration
- Affords assistance with new hire and temporary medical assistants
- Opens and closes clinic as required, schedules appointments, checks phone messages, reconcile fee tickets and money, scans records, and prepares referrals and prescription refills
- Forwards questions, concerns, messages, and faxes to providers as necessary and assist with patient callbacks
- Attends departmental meetings and performs other duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications
- Two (2) years of medical clinic experience
- Experience using a computer and Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
- Experience using EHR software
- BLS certification for healthcare providers
Work Hours and Location
This is a full-time, non-exempt position with a 40-hour regular workweek. Additional work hours may be required based on department needs, programming, staffing, and/or scheduling. This position will work at the Belknap Campus and/or the HSC clinics.
