Medical Assistant II – UI Health Care Bettendorf Psychiatry 50%

About the role

The University of Iowa Health Care is seeking a 50% Medical Assistant II to work in their Bettendorf Psychiatry Clinic. The University of Iowa Community Clinics (UICC) is also seeking a patient-centered 50% Medical Assistant to work within their Psychiatry Clinic in Bettendorf, IA.

Responsibilities

• Supports the Psychiatry Clinic under direct supervision of physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, or registered nurses.
• Facilitates the smooth flow of patients through the clinic through interactions with patients, families, and staff.
• Aid in clinic with patient care, including recording and accessing patient history, medication records, screenings, and allergies.
• Obtain and/or record vital signs.
• May administer medications not requiring high-level skill or nursing judgment.
• Float to other clinical areas based on staffing needs.
• Use electronic word/data processing equipment and conventional office equipment.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Certification OR registration as a Medical Assistant OR completion of a recognized one-year Medical Assistant Program, OR Completion of a health care profession program with a curriculum incorporating elements of a Medical Assistant program including but not limited to: pathophysiology, medical terminology, basic pharmacology and medication administration including dose calculation and psychology.
• Driver’s License and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards.
• Availability to provide support to other clinical locations based on clinical need/hours.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to demonstrate teamwork and autonomy in all aspects of the role.
• Previous phlebotomy experience (desired).

• Special Qualification/License: Driver’s License and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards.
• Desired Qualifications: Previous EPIC experience, previous psychiatric patient care, and previous phlebotomy experience.
