About the role

The Division of Student Affairs at WashU advances the educational mission by providing resources and experiences outside the classroom that prepare students for lifelong success. The Medical Assistant II position functions in the department, handling patient care, communication, and equipment management.

Responsibilities

  • Interacts directly with patients in clinic settings, completing clinical tasks such as obtaining vital signs, conducting EKGs, and administering medications.
  • Prepares for office hours by obtaining charts, scheduling tests, and preparing exam rooms.
  • Aids in examinations, procedures, and lab tests, and assists with medication renewals and authorizations.
  • Directs patient flow, assists with special procedures, and completes requisitions and documentation.
  • Communicates with patients and family members, answers basic questions, and monitors patient contacts.
  • Maintains exam rooms and cleans supplies, ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Maintains HIPAA compliance, participates in in-services, and complies with OSHA and federal standards.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities and performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Required certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA).
  • At least six months of related work experience in a medical assistant role.
  • Ability to obtain a Medical Assistant certification/registration within six months of hire.
  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems, such as Epic EHR.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and patient care protocols.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) or equivalent.
  • Nursing degree (RN/LPN) with at least one year of relevant experience.
  • Ability to demonstrate proficiency in medical assistant credentials from NHA, AAMA, or AMT.
