Medical Assistant II-Pediatric Urology-Riley Children's Health
Full-time, 40 hours per week. Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Located at Riley Outpatient Center (ROC), 575 Riley Hospital Dr., Suite Urology MSA 1. Convenient employee parking available at Riley Hospital or Riley Outpatient Garage.
About the role
Under the supervision of the designated supervisor and assigned physician, you will perform duties associated with direct patient care and clinical direction, ensuring patient care aligns with organizational standards. Responsibilities include assuring completeness of ordered procedures and treatments, facilitating smooth patient flow, performing general lab work, instructing patients concerning procedures and treatments, and ensuring medical orders and referrals are carried out accurately and timely. You will also handle registration, scheduling, EMR maintenance, and general front office functions as needed. May perform computerized physician order entry if directed by the assigned physician. Expected to precept current MA team members or MA externs as requested by leadership.
Responsibilities
- Room patients and prepare them for appointments
- Assist with administrative and clinical support duties
- Support a high-volume pediatric specialty clinic serving 50-70 patients daily
- Work in a fast-paced environment alongside up to four providers at a time
- Approximately 70% patient rooming and 30% administrative responsibilities
- Perform general lab work and instruct patients concerning procedures, treatments, and needs
- Ensure medical orders and referrals are carried out accurately and in a timely manner
- Perform registration and scheduling activities per organizational and departmental procedures
- Maintain EMR files and perform general front office functions as needed
- Precept current MA team members or MA externs as requested by leadership
Requirements
- AHA Basic Life Support for healthcare workers certification required (other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty)
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Graduation from a Medical Assistant program required
- Current certification in medical assisting required from one of the following: America Association of Medical Assistants (CMA), American Medical Technologists (RMA), National Health Career Association (CCMA), National Center for Competency Testing (NCMA), and/or American Medical Certification Association (CMAC)
- Knowledge of OSHA, CLIA, and ADA required
- Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding required
- TB validated (to administer or read) or validation obtained within 6 months of hire preferred
- Knowledge of Business Unit Quality Programs, Meaningful Use, and Standard Work Programs and concepts within 6 months of hire
- Knowledge of standard laboratory and medical procedures
- Knowledge of insurance plans and third-party payers
- Ability to master standard clinical competencies per current Clinical policy, Point of Care, and Skills Competency checklists
- Requires basic math and accurate data collection and entry skills
