About the role

The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking a Medical Assistant II to work within the Main Campus Ambulatory Float Pool. The position is 50% -100%.

Responsibilities

  • Supports patients in the urgent care setting by interacting with patients, families, and staff.
  • Facilitates the smooth flow of patients through the clinic.
  • Assists in clinic with physical examinations, related treatments, and documentation.
  • Manages internal and external medical records.
  • Administers routine oral, rectal, or injectable medications.
  • Performs routine laboratory tests and vital sign monitoring.
  • Provides psychological support to patients and families.
  • Takes and uploads photos of wounds and assists with Plastic Surgery Reconstruction.
  • Stocks rooms with appropriate medical supplies and linens.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings.
  • Identifies vaccination needs for specific patient populations.
  • Completes on-line and in-service education programs annually.
  • Performs related clerical tasks including answering phones and providing information.
  • Treats matters with confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA requirements.
  • Demonstrates consideration and respect for patients, families, and co-workers.

Requirements

  • Certification OR registration as a Medical Assistant OR completion of a recognized one-year Medical Assistant Program, OR
  • Completion of a health care profession program with a curriculum incorporating elements of a Medical Assistant program including but not limited to pathophysiology, medical terminology, basic pharmacology and medication administration including dose calculation and psychology (include educational transcripts during application process)
  • Minimum 6 months Medical Assistant experience

Schedule

Monday-Friday, 0800-1630, no weekends, holidays, or late coverage. (flexible-4 hour shifts and 8 hour shifts available)
