Responsibilities
- Perform clinical duties such as taking vital signs, giving injections, performing simple diagnostic tests, collecting specimens, drawing blood, sterilizing and cleaning equipment, and maintaining examination rooms.
- Greet, check in patients, and notify the appropriate provider.
- Prepare patient, room, and equipment for procedures and exams.
- Take and record vital signs; inform provider of patient vital signs and concerns.
- Recognize and treat emergency patients as a priority; assist with patient examinations and treatments.
- Handle patient situations over the phone, schedule appointments and procedures with medical professionals.
- Understand limitations in dealing with patients over the phone and involve nursing staff and providers as needed.
- Register new patients and establish a medical record.
- Prepare patient billings and assist patients by filling out insurance and other forms.
- Supply authorized information upon request by third-party payors.
- Instruct patients in preparation for specific procedures.
- Collect and process routine laboratory specimens.
- Operate and maintain clinical equipment.
- Maintain and use aseptic technique including sterilization, disinfection, and disposal of contaminated material.
- Clean, wrap, and autoclave instruments.
- Care for supplies and equipment.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
- Previous experience in an office or outpatient ambulatory care setting strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work well as a member of a team.
- Computer skills strongly preferred.
- Must be willing and able to participate in evening, weekend, and holiday coverage according to the needs of the department.
Qualifications
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – American Association of Medical Assistants OR
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Medical Technologists OR
- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) – National Healthcareers Association plus DOL Registered Apprenticeships Certificate of Completion.
- Current BLS certification required.
Schedule
Full-Time, 40 hours/week. Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM.
