About the role
The Medical Assistant II supports medical care providers in an outpatient/clinic setting, performing a variety of duties including patient care, documentation, administrative tasks, and equipment maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Accurately document and update patient's medical history and other medical information in electronic and/or paper medical records.
- Perform necessary tests and screenings as ordered by providers.
- Administer immunizations and injections, and comply with immunization and medication handling policies.
- Prepare and assist with minor procedures, set up instruments and medications, and prepare instruments for reprocessing.
- Handle patient requests for prescription refills, verify insurance coverage, and schedule appointments.
- Assist with patient education and provide patient care, including monitoring symptoms and reactions.
- Manage daily clinic operations, ensuring smooth patient flow and maintaining a clean, organized workspace.
- Interact with patients, staff, and providers, triaging issues and resolving problems related to billing, appointments, and medical records.
- Support providers with schedule changes and perform administrative tasks such as filing, data entry, and communication.
- Collaborate with insurance carriers to ensure accurate coverage and pre-authorizations.
- Document and update patient information in electronic and paper systems, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
- Perform routine maintenance on clinic equipment and ensure supplies are stocked and accounted for.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate from an approved Medical Assistant Certificate/Diploma program.
- One year of experience in an outpatient or ambulatory clinic setting.
- Experience with an electronic medical record (EMR).
- Ability to analyze clinical and administrative information and determine appropriate actions.
- Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word & Excel.
- Strong organizational and follow-up skills.
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology and disease processes.
- Working knowledge of insurance verification and pre-registration.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduated from an approved Medical Assistant Certificate/Diploma program.
- One year of experience in an outpatient or ambulatory clinic setting.
- Specialized/technical training in medical assisting.
- Experience with electronic medical records (EMRs).
- Ability to analyze and interpret clinical and administrative information.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong organizational and follow-up skills.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and disease processes.
- Experience with insurance verification and pre-registration.
