About the role
The Medical Assistant II position at Keck Medicine of USC supports medical care providers in an outpatient/clinic setting. Key responsibilities include assisting with patient examinations and procedures, maintaining patient records, and performing administrative tasks.
Responsibilities
- Accurately document and update patient medical history and other information in electronic and/or paper medical records.
- Perform necessary tests and screenings as ordered by providers.
- Administer immunizations and medications within scope of practice.
- Assist with minor procedures and prepare instruments and medications.
- Process medication refills and communicate with pharmacies.
- Prepare and stock examination rooms with supplies.
- Ensure patient confidentiality and maintain a safe work environment.
- Interact with patients, staff, and physicians to resolve issues and provide education.
- Manage patient schedules and maintain clinic flow.
- Support administrative tasks such as scheduling, billing, and insurance verification.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate from an approved Medical Assistant Certificate/Diploma program.
- One year of experience in outpatient or ambulatory clinic settings.
- Experience with an electronic medical record (EMR).
- Ability to analyze information and determine appropriate actions.
- Effective communication and multitasking skills.
- Knowledge of insurance and billing guidelines.
- Basic life support certification (BLS) from the American Heart Association.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduated from an approved Medical Assistant Certificate/Diploma program.
- One year of experience in outpatient or ambulatory clinic settings.
- Experience with an electronic medical record (EMR).
- Ability to analyze clinical and administrative information.
- Effective communication and multitasking skills.
- Knowledge of insurance and billing guidelines.
- Strong organizational and follow-up skills.
- Working knowledge of basic medical terminology and diseases.
Skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word & Excel.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Knowledge of medical/CCS billing/authorization guidelines.
- Basic understanding of medical equipment operation and maintenance.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
