Responsibilities
- Takes vital signs
- Gives injections
- Performs simple diagnostic tests
- Captures specimens
- Draws blood
- Sterilizes and cleans equipment
- Maintains examination rooms
- Greets and checks in patients
- Notifies appropriate provider
- Prepares patient, room and equipment for procedures and exams
- Takes and records vital signs
- Informs provider of patient vital signs and concerns
- Recognizes and treats emergency patients
- Assists with patient examinations and treatments
- Handles patient situations over the phone
- Schedules appointments and procedures with medical professionals
- Registers new patients and establishes a medical record
- Prepares patient billings
- Fills out insurance and other forms for patients
- Provides authorized information to third party payors
- Instructs patients on specific procedure preparations
- Collects and processes routine laboratory specimens
- Operates and maintains clinical equipment
- Maintains and uses aseptic technique including sterilization, disinfection and disposal of contaminated material
- Cleans, wraps and autoclaves instruments
- Cares for supplies and equipment
- Performs other duties as required or assigned
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program
- American Association Medical Assistants (AAMA) certified - CMA designation
- American Medical Technologists (AMT) registered – RMA designation
- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant plus 12 month D-H apprenticeship program – CCMA designation
- Previous experience in office or outpatient ambulatory care setting strongly preferred
