Medical Assistant II - Family Medicine

Responsibilities

• Takes vital signs
• Gives injections
• Performs simple diagnostic tests
• Captures specimens
• Draws blood
• Sterilizes and cleans equipment
• Maintains examination rooms
• Greets and checks in patients
• Notifies appropriate provider
• Prepares patient, room and equipment for procedures and exams
• Takes and records vital signs
• Informs provider of patient vital signs and concerns
• Recognizes and treats emergency patients
• Assists with patient examinations and treatments
• Handles patient situations over the phone
• Schedules appointments and procedures with medical professionals
• Registers new patients and establishes a medical record
• Prepares patient billings
• Fills out insurance and other forms for patients
• Provides authorized information to third party payors
• Instructs patients on specific procedure preparations
• Collects and processes routine laboratory specimens
• Operates and maintains clinical equipment
• Maintains and uses aseptic technique including sterilization, disinfection and disposal of contaminated material
• Cleans, wraps and autoclaves instruments
• Cares for supplies and equipment
• Performs other duties as required or assigned

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program
• American Association Medical Assistants (AAMA) certified - CMA designation
• American Medical Technologists (AMT) registered – RMA designation
• Certified Clinical Medical Assistant plus 12 month D-H apprenticeship program – CCMA designation
• Previous experience in office or outpatient ambulatory care setting strongly preferred
