Primary Responsibilities

  • Prepare patient exam rooms and equipment and select instruments using aseptic and sterile techniques
  • Escort patient to exam room, obtain brief history and vital signs
  • Update medical records for physician review
  • Perform immunizations, injections, venipuncture, urinalysis and other procedures, completing necessary documentation
  • When necessary, package specimens to be sent to lab for analysis
  • Assist physician with patient exams and procedures
  • Greet and register clinic patients. Obtain and/or update registration information and referrals or authorizations as necessary
  • Schedule clinic appointments, ancillary tests and maintain appropriate scheduling information
  • Receive and route incoming clinic phone calls to appropriate area. When necessary, record accurate messages and distribute to appropriate area
  • Clean and stock patient exam rooms
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis
  • Minimum Required Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum Required Experience: 2 years medical assisting experience or graduated from an accredited Medical Assistant Program
  • Required Certification/Licensure(s): NRCMA (Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant) or AAMA (American Association Medical Assistants)

Knowledge – Skills – Abilities

  • Knowledge of biology, clinical judgment, medicine, cultural awareness, and consulting
  • Medical documentation, interpersonal, practice-based learning and improvement, empathy, and decision making skills

Schedule

Work requires occasionally lifting moderate weight materials, standing, or walking continuously. Work is performed in an environmentally controlled environment.
