Essential Job Function/Competencies
- Performs various administrative and clinical duties under the direction of their assigned direct supervisor.
- Consistently confers with physicians, nursing, and other staff members to coordinate and schedule appointments of patients.
- Performs additional responsibilities within the office that encompasses at least 50% of their daily time.
- Greets and prepares patients.
- Makes vital signs measurements and records.
- Records patient interviews, histories, and chief complaints.
- Provides patient education regarding medications, disease management, home treatments, and special diets.
- Prepares patients for examinations and performs routine screening tests.
- Aids physicians during exams.
- Collects and processes blood samples, performs basic laboratory tests, and performs electrocardiograms (EKGs).
- Aids with X-ray and physical therapy procedures.
- Prepares and administers medications with physician authorization.
- Changes dressings, applies bandages, removes sutures, and performs other first aid procedures.
- Utilizes CPR skills when necessary.
- Prepares accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times.
- Opens office in the morning and closes in the afternoon.
- Maintains patient logs for lab requests, CT scans, and other treatment orders.
- Maintains prescription ledgers when needed.
- Ensures the back office has good flow, keeps rooms full, and assists with room turnover.
- Completes new patient thorough work-ups (x-rays, vitals, new patient packet explanations).
- Adds medical history on all new patients and accurately updates all established patients' history.
- Prepares for seeing patients the following day, including patient confirmations for next day visits.
- Completes patient medical record requests when necessary.
- Aids in the orientation and training of new personnel.
- Assists with other administrative projects and tasks as needed.
- Ensures proper handoff of responsibilities once their task is completed.
- Maintains punctuality and reliability for assigned/confirmed shifts.
- Respects and acknowledges the organization's commitment to cultural diversity, which is expressed through behavior, language, and actions.
- Consistently demonstrates good use of time and resources.
- Adheres to HR and corporate policies and procedures.
- Ensures that all medical records are accurate and complete for all patients.
- Ensures compliance with healthcare regulations, medical laws, and high ethical standards.
- Regularly adheres and supports compliance and accreditation efforts as assigned, including OSHA, HIPAA, and CMS guidelines for Parts C & D on General Compliance and Fraud, Waste & Abuse.
Certifications, Licensures Or Registry Requirements
Medical Assistant Certification or Registration required.

- Knowledge in healthcare systems operations such as EMR, Practice Management Solutions.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Graduate of a Medical Assistant program required.
Experience Requirements
- 6 months experience working within a physician’s office desired.
- Urology experience desired.
