Responsibilities
- Provide immunizations, take vitals, and room patients
- Prepare patients for physician visits, perform tests, and file appropriate documents
- Receive and direct phone calls, update patient records, and ensure forms and consents are completed
- Perform a variety of patient care activities to assist physicians and nursing personnel
- Deliver quality customer service and maintain established quality control standards
- Check-out patients, assist with referral processing, and arrange laboratory services
- Record patients' health history, set up EKG machines, and perform routine specimen collection and tests
- Administer injections and medications, prepare equipment and examination rooms, and clean instruments
- Assist physicians with medical treatments, procedures, and exams
- Manage inventory of medical supplies and equip exam rooms with appropriate supplies
- Handle messages, prior authorizations, and patient calls
- For Certified/Registered Medical Assistant-2: Complete all MA-1 responsibilities, fulfill Career Ladder online requirements and skills assessments, assist in training and evaluating new hires, manage inventory, assist other MAs and providers, maintain logs (e.g., refrigerator temperatures, emergency medications), review charts and lab results, and assist with quality assurance reviews
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required
- Current Medical Assistant Certification (AAMA, AMT, NHA, NCCT, or RMA) or 2+ years of demonstrated experience (career ladder opportunities may be limited without certification)
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification via AHA
- Satisfactory completion of applicable competency assessments/skill checklist within 90 days of hire
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients and external parties in a courteous and professional manner
- Knowledge of medical terminology, practices, administrative processes, and organizational policies
- Understanding of patient care and examination procedures
- Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
- Compassionate and professional demeanor
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work quickly and efficiently to ensure patient comfort and satisfaction
- Proficiency in verbal and written English
- Computer literate with entry-level knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word)
- Demonstrated ability to organize, coordinate, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Reliable attendance and punctuality
- Participation in required meetings, training, and committees
- Professional appearance and positive attitude
Key Physical and Mental Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to push or pull heavy objects using up to 50 pounds of force
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
- Fine motor skills to operate office equipment and machinery
- Ability to receive and comprehend instructions verbally and in writing
- Logical reasoning for simple and complex problem-solving
- Ability to travel to multiple locations as required
