Responsibilities

  • Provide immunizations, take vitals, and room patients
  • Perform clinical and clerical duties
  • Prepare patients for physician visits, perform tests, and file appropriate documents
  • Receive and direct phone calls, update patient records, and ensure forms and consents are completed
  • Perform a variety of patient care activities to assist physicians and nursing personnel
  • Deliver quality customer service and maintain established quality control standards
  • Check-out patients, assist with referral processing, and arrange laboratory services
  • Prepare patients for examination, record health history, and take vitals
  • Set up EKG machines and other ancillary tests, administer injections and medications, and perform routine specimen collection and tests
  • Prepare equipment and examination rooms, and clean instruments
  • Assist physicians with medical treatments, procedures, and exams
  • Manage inventory of medical supplies and equip exam rooms
  • Handle messages, prior authorizations, and patient calls

Certified/Registered Medical Assistant-2 Responsibilities (if applicable):

  • Perform all responsibilities for MA-1
  • Complete Career Ladder online requirements and skills assessment (annual requirement)
  • Assist in training and evaluation of new hires
  • Assist in inventory management process
  • Support other MAs and providers as needed
  • Maintain logs and required checks (e.g., refrigerator temperatures, emergency medications, expired medications, oxygen, cold sterilization fluid change)
  • Review charts, lab test results, and encounter forms for completeness and follow-up
  • Assist with daily and monthly quality assurance reviews, including emergency kit check-off

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Current Medical Assistant Certification (AAMA, AMT, NHA, NCCT, or RMA) or Medical Assistant level-1/II with >2 years of demonstrated experience (career ladder opportunities may be limited without certification)
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification via AHA
  • Satisfactory completion of applicable competency assessments/skill checklist within 90 days of hire
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients and external parties in a courteous and professional manner
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, practices, administrative processes, and organizational policies
  • Understanding of patient care and examination procedures
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Compassionate and professional demeanor
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently to ensure patient comfort and satisfaction
  • Proficiency in verbal and written English
  • Computer literacy with entry-level knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word)
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, coordinate, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality
  • Participation in required meetings, training, in-services, and committees
  • Professional appearance and positive attitude

Key Physical and Mental Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to push or pull heavy objects using up to 50 pounds of force
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
  • Fine motor skills to operate office equipment and machinery
  • Ability to receive and comprehend instructions verbally and/or in writing
  • Logical reasoning for simple and complex problem-solving
  • Ability to travel to multiple locations as required
