About the role

Responsibilities

  • Provides immunizations to patients, takes vitals, and rooms patients
  • Prepares patients for physicians' visits, performs tests, and files appropriate documents
  • Receives and directs phone calls, obtains necessary patient information, updates records, and ensures forms and consents are completed
  • Performs a variety of patient care activities to assist physicians and nursing personnel
  • Delivers quality customer service and maintains established quality control standards
  • Checks out patients, assists with referral processing, and arranges laboratory services
  • Records patients' health history, sets up EKG machines, administers injections and medications, and performs routine specimen collection and tests
  • Prepares equipment and examination rooms, and cleans instruments
  • Assists physicians with medical treatments, procedures, and exams
  • Manages inventory of medical supplies and equips exam rooms with appropriate supplies
  • Handles messages, prior authorizations, and patient calls
  • For Certified/Registered Medical Assistant-2: Completes all MA-1 responsibilities, assists in training and evaluating new hires, manages inventory, maintains logs (e.g., refrigerator temperatures, emergency medications), reviews charts and lab results, and assists with quality assurance reviews

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Current Medical Assistant Certification (AAMA, AMT, NHA, NCCT, or RMA) or demonstrated experience (2+ years) for level-1 or II applicants (career ladder opportunities may be limited without certification)
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification via AHA
  • Satisfactory completion of applicable competency assessments/skill checklist within 90 days of hire
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients and external parties in a courteous and professional manner
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, practices, administrative processes, and organizational policies
  • Familiarity with patient care and examination procedures
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Compassionate, organized, and detail-oriented with the ability to work efficiently
  • Computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Suites (Outlook, Word)
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, coordinate, prioritize, and multitask
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Must report to work as scheduled without delay
  • Attends required meetings, training, and participates in committees as needed

Key Physical and Mental Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to push or pull heavy objects using up to 50 pounds of force
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
  • Fine motor skills to operate office equipment and machinery
  • Ability to receive and comprehend instructions verbally and in writing
  • Logical reasoning for simple and complex problem-solving
  • Ability to travel to multiple locations as required
