About the Role
The Medical Assistant II (MA II) provides direct and indirect clinical support to providers to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. In addition to core medical assistant duties, the MA II performs advanced clinical procedures, supports care coordination, contributes to workflow improvements, and assists in training and mentoring staff.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Prepare exam rooms and patients for visits, including obtaining vital signs and medical history
- Verify patient identity using two identifiers and confirm reason for visit
- Assist providers during exams and procedures
- Perform advanced clinical duties, including venipuncture, injections/immunizations, EKGs, and other diagnostic tests per scope and competency
- Collect, process, and document laboratory specimens in accordance with protocols
- Administer medications and support prescription processes in accordance with provider orders and organizational policy
- Document all patient care activities accurately in the EMR
- Educate patients on medications, treatment plans, and follow-up care
- Covergance care by reviewing provider schedules, identifying gaps in care, and supporting patient flow
- Respond to patient calls and route messages appropriately within the EMR
- Maintain equipment, perform quality checks, and ensure adequate inventory of supplies and vaccines
- Ensure compliance with infection control standards, OSHA regulations, and Universal Precautions
- Support training and onboarding of new or existing MA staff
- Collaborate with care team members to improve workflow efficiency and patient experience
- Perform other duties as assigned
Additional MA II Responsibilities
- Assist in training and mentoring MA staff
- Provide input on workflow improvements
- Support inventory management (medications, vaccines, supplies)
- Aid in managing patient flow and walk-ins
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Graduation from an accredited medical assisting program (CAAHEP or ABHES) or equivalent training and experience
- Minimum 2–3 years of medical assistant experience
- Current BLS certification
- PREFERRED: Experience in FQHC or community health setting
- Bilingual English/Spanish

HOURS OF OPERATIONS
HarborCHC is open Monday-Thursday 7:00 am-7:00 pm, Friday 8:00 am-5:00 pm, Saturday 8:00 am-5:00 pm with occasional overtime, or other shifts based on clinic needs.

- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
