About the role
CLS Health is a growing, physician-led healthcare system in Houston, Texas, focused on providing patients with holistic, multispecialty care. We are looking for an experienced Medical Assistant to support our team in delivering comprehensive, safe, and efficient patient care.
Responsibilities
- Room patients, interview/update their chief complaint, medical history, medication list, and take vitals.
- Prepare patient charts a week in advance and verify benefits reports.
- Scan documents to appropriate patient charts.
- Maintain stocked and clean exam rooms before clinic, after each patient, and at the end of the day.
- Refill patient medications as directed by a physician and obtain Pre-Authorization/Determination for medications.
- Ensure the physician is in-network and an authorized/up-to-date referral is in the patient's chart.
- Assist the physician in the exam room with wound care and/or procedures.
- Follow up on calls/voicemails and document phone log/conversation.
- Educate and inform patients about diagnostic imaging (DI), labs, referrals, and procedures ordered by the physician.
- Schedule patients for upcoming appointments after the physician visit.
- Obtain authorization prior to sending any orders when needed.
- Distribute faxes from the main fax line to appropriate team members.
- Travel to other CLS Health locations as required.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Certified or Registered Medical Assistant with a nationally recognized accreditation organization or graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program.
- Two or more years of experience as a Medical Assistant.
- Must be bilingual.
- Experience in a medical office or customer service environment preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other computer applications.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance billing preferred.
